It's hard to argue with 67dB of gain at only $199. Many preamps for double that price struggle with such a feat. BLA's Auteur will work great with super quiet mics like ribbons or the Shure SM7B. Overall, the Auteur is fairly clean, but gets a little extra weight from the Edcor output transformer. Yeah, you read that right, $199 and it has an output transformer!
The Auteur MKII 500 is one of the most "bang for your buck" 500-series preamps in existence! You get all of the sound of the 1/2 rack version, but with the addition of a Hi-Z input! It features an ultra-fast input stage that captures lots of detail and nuance, and a signal path transformer that adds some "beef" on the way out. Once you hear the Auteur MKII 500, you'll want to load your 500 rack full of 'em!
